This grain has exceptional fluidity making it ideal for filigree and detailed designs, small items, flat surfaces and large surface areas. This grain also delivers beautiful results with stone-in-place casting.  Get durable, tarnish-resistant castings with anti-oxidant, anti-firescale Argentium® 940.

Casting and Cleaning
Use a flask temperature at least 30°C below that normally used for sterling and never higher than 676°C.  Use in dedicated crucibles to prevent accidental cross-contamination. Air-cool for at least 15 minutes or wait for all red glow to disappear before quenching in water. This achieves a hardness approximately equal to that of standard sterling.

Boric acid is used as a flux to protect the metal from oxidation. It should be applied to the crucible before the metal is completely melted or added to the metal surface right before casting to shield the silver from oxygen. It will melt into a glassy liquid that coats the silver, preventing it from absorbing oxygen while it is liquid.

Re-Using
If you plan to re-cast Argentium silver, remove the copper oxides from the surface in a pickling solution  and then tumble with burnishing compound to remove any remaining debris.  A minimum 1:1 ratio of new grain to used silver is recommended.  Adding traditional sterling to this grain is not recommend as doing so tends to dilute the properties of Argentium Silver.
